When Serena departs for boarding school after he lost his virginity to her, Nate continues to date Blair. When Serena
returns, however, tensions are all stirred up. Nate expresses interest in Serena, but remains with Blair. Nate then confesses to Jenny (whom he mistakenly thinks is Serena) at the Masquerade Ball that he is not over Serena. This causes Blair to eventually end their relationship.
Gossip Girl were a guy instead of a TV show, he’d be the really sexy guy you completely fall for immediately, slowly realize he’s the worst and constantly disappointing you, yet keep hooking up with him sporadically for the next five years.
Or maybe that’s just me and everyone else has already given up on the scandalous Upper East Siders, but I still have a soft spot for it despite despairing of its many ridiculous plot lines and openly laughing at the dramatic death scene we saw last week. It’s definitely time for the show to end, but I’m still feeling a little nostalgic remembering all the good times. (Need to get caught up on everything that’s happened?
And of course, the best times of the show always involved love. Since just about everyone on the show has hooked up at one point it was hard to keep this from becoming a novel, but here’s our condensed list of the couples that worked, and the couples that should have been banned from Manhattan.
The relationship between Nate and Serena, also known as Serenate, is the friendship and former romantic relationship between Serena van der Woodsen and Nate Archibald.
In the Gossip Girl novel series, Serena and Nate are on-again, off-again. They lose their virginity to each other in the series prequel, It Had To Be You, during the summer before Serena leaves for boarding school. Once Serena returns, their antics often lead to the break-ups of Blair and Nate. Serena realizes her love for Nate at various points in the series. One of the main reasons stopping their relationship is that their best friend, Blair Waldorf, is also in love with Nate. In the final book, I Will Always Love You, Nate chooses Blair in Part I and then Serena in Part II. In the end, Nate ends up with neither, and Blair and Serena go off together as best friends on vacation.
In the 1st season, when Serena returns, Nate hopes to give their relationship a real chance. But Serena refuses, saying ,”I didn’t come back for you. Look, Blair’s my best friend, and you’re her boyfriend, and she loves you.” However, Serena still agrees to meet up with Nate to talk with about their current situation.
